About the Project

As of 1 October 2022, the Warsaw School of Economics is a member of CIVICA - the European University for Social Sciences alliance.

In addition to SGH, the alliance includes: Bocconi University, Central European University, European University Institute, Hertie School, IE University, National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), Sciences Po, Stockholm School of Economics, The London School of Economics and Political Science.

Funded by the European Union through the European Funds for Social Development (FERS) under the NAWA - Support for European Universities programme, the project Advancing Academic Excellence: CIVICA Collaboration for Research, Didactics, Dual Degrees, AI Training, and Scientific Internships (CIVICA+) aims to strengthen the capacity of SGH Warsaw School of Economics within CIVICA.

The main general result of the CIVICA+ project implementation will be support to internationalisation of SGH in the form of implementation of activities synergic and complementary to the cooperation undertaken within the framework of the CIVICA alliance of European universities.

Within the implementation of specific objectives and assumed tasks in the project, the following specific effects of the CIVICA+ project are expected to be achieved:

1. Preparation of a programme (strategy) for medium and long-term support of a group of research and teaching staff who have recently obtained their doctoral degree or are preparing to defend their doctoral thesis (post-docs) in the form of a programme document.

2. Establishing new scientific contacts between the staff of SGH and the CIVICA partner universities as a result of participation in the conference, which may in the future result in new joint research projects, publications and improvement of the scientific position of SGH within the alliance as well as in teaching initiatives The conference will also result in the publication of a scientific monograph.

3. Improvement of the competences of the scientific, teaching and administrative staff of CIVICA universities in the field of applications of artificial intelligence tools in science and higher education and improvement of the adaptability of the institutions to operate in conditions of dynamic technological progress.

4. Organisation and implementation of long-term research internships of SGH research and teaching staff in CIVICA partner universities, which, apart from enhancing scientific cooperation between partner universities and strengthening the scientific potential of the participants, will allow them to improve their competences in selected areas of scientific research and prepare scientific publications of international scope and grant applications.

5. Familiarising doctoral students preparing particularly high-level doctoral theses with the latest international research achievements and research results in a given area of science by means of consultations with renowned scientists from CIVICA partner universities regarding research methods and research results, which will ultimately improve the quality of their scientific work.

6. Creating organisational and substantive basis for SGH to establish cooperation within CIVICA in the form of bachelor's and master's dual degree agreements, together with identification of a narrower group of universities and fields of study within which such cooperation may be established in the coming years.

The general objective and specific objectives of the CIVICA+ project are in line with the objective of the NAWA programme - Developing the internationalisation of higher education and science institutions by supporting activities synergistic and complementary to international academic partnerships within the framework of European University Alliances. The implementation of each project objective is based on close cooperation with CIVICA universities. Each specific objective complements the activities already carried out within the individual CIVICA work packages.

The target groups of the project are:

  • research and teaching staff of the Warsaw School of Economics, who will be offered the opportunity to participate in long-term research internships at CIVICA universities;

  • PhD students and young researchers at the Warsaw School of Economics, who will be offered the opportunity to participate in short-term study visits to CIVICA partner universities;
